Job Description Summary
The Claim Business Intelligence & Analytics organization is looking for an experienced Data Engineer to lead a team. This position will focus on people leadership and strategy. There will also be the technical aspect ranging from preparing data for predictive modeling, building and deploying the tools and infrastructure to implement predictive models within our models-as-a-service framework, acquiring and discovering new data sources and more.
This position will have direct reports. This role will also be look upon as technical leader within the team. Technologies and platforms, include SQL, Python and Hadoop. Experience working with devops, cloud platforms (i.e. AWS), and test automation will be beneficial, as is conceptual knowledge about predictive modeling.
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Data Analysis, Acquisition, Preparation, and Exploration:
+ Provide leadership to a team working with complex (type, quality, volume) and unfamiliar data.
+ Perform data analysis, assessment, and design at an expert level.
+ Lead investigation and resolution efforts for high impact data defects and problems.
+ Ensure work complies with Travelers standards, processes, and protocols.
+ Identify gaps, escalating issue to manager.
+ Develop and apply complex data derivations, business transformation rules, and data requirements.
+ Collaborate with project team to identify, estimate, and prioritize project and/or enhancement activities.
+ Create complex (technology and features) data visualizations techniques to help support data exploration.
Data Solutions & Analytics Implementations:
+ Partner with Information Technology to develop strategic data solutions including transformation logic, rules, tables, as well as business requirements, governance, and specifications.
+ Manage the operationalizing and automation of more complex data (more systems, data sets and streams, size of data sets more substantial) products into business.
+ Lead integration of analytic data products, including pilots and proof of concepts.
+ Apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions within the context of assigned projects and/or enhancements.
Data Culture:
+ Occasionally present and translate complex information in relevant business terms.
+ Ensure business and data users are properly trained on data products/analytic environment.
Data Strategy and Execution:
+ Provide leadership by assigning work based on priorities and coaching / mentoring team members.
+ Execute data strategies with an understanding of enterprise architecture, platforms and application infrastructure.
+ Integrate work efforts within respective team portfolios.
+ Ability to work well and build consensus among a diverse group of stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
+ 5 years of relevant experience with data tools, techniques, and manipulation required.
+ 1 year of Leadership experience required.
Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge
+ 3 years Leadership experience preferred.
+ Advanced knowledge of data tools, techniques, and manipulation preferred. Examples (but not limited to): Big data and Cloud platforms; Programming languages - SAS, SQL, Spark, Python, Hive, AWS; Visualization platforms: QlikView, Tableau, MicroStrategy and Qlik Sense.
+ 6 years of relevant experience with data tools, techniques, and manipulation preferred.
