POSITION TITLE: Early Childhood Education Lead Teacher
DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)
SUPERVISOR: Early Childhood Education Director
FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt
CLASSIFICATION: Full Time, Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:
The ECE Lead Teacher is responsible for providing assistance to the ECE Director in key areas including: 1) Age-appropriate curriculum development that enhances all aspects of a child’s development; 2) Staff training; 3) Teamwork/Team building; and 4) Special
projects and special events. This position may work a split shift with variable hours.
The ECE Lead Teacher will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community
at the Kroc Keiki Learning Center.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Bachelor’s Degree and 12 or more credits in ECE or Child Development coursework.
2. At least three-year daycare or preschool teaching experience.
3. Demonstrated teaching and leadership abilities.
An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be accepted.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
1. Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field of study.
2. Teacher Director qualified by state licensing agency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Serve as an expert resource and mentor for new and developing KKLC staff.
2. Work with administrators and teachers to offer fresh, creative solutions for difficult situations and systemic problems.
3. Help to lead various areas of the school including course planning/curriculum development, professional development, special education, staff scheduling, standardized testing improvement or other subjects, depending on the needs of the department.
4. Assist ECE Director in leading department meetings.
5. Leads and teaches own class.
6. Plans and implements activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and social needs of the children in the program.
7. Ensures equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained and safe at all times. Assists in the daily inspection of the environment to identify potentially hazardous objects or situations. Reports information to ECE Director.
8. Prepares the classroom at the beginning of the day and performs cleanup and set up for the next day’s activities.
9. Provides weekly and monthly schedules of activities. Establishes routines and provides positive guidance.
10. Provides activities that introduce math, literacy and other academic concepts and culturally appropriate programs and activities.
11. Provides daily lesson/activity plans which integrate our co-developed Bible thematic units and include a variety of experiences and activities for children including songs, games and storytelling.
12. Ensures children are supervised at all times, adhering to the Salvation Army procedures for Protecting the Mission. Provides a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable and builds children’s esteem.
13. Creates a welcoming climate for both child and parent, especially at drop-off and pick-up times.
14. Clearly and effectively communicates in a manner that children understand. Implements positive discipline when required.
15. Observes children and makes note of progress. Develops and maintains current, accurate and confidential files.
16. Communicates with parents, discusses children’s development with parents and keeps parents informed of program expectations, program activities and their child’s progress.
17. Plans together with and provides information, training, and guidance to Assistant Teacher, Aides, trainees, and volunteers.
18. Provides appropriate feedback to staff on work performance and other job related activities as needed.
19. Completes formal written performance evaluations, discusses outcomes and sets annual goals with staff.
20. Promotes team spirit and cooperation between staff, volunteers, and parents.
21. Teaches proper eating habits and personal hygiene. Serves meals and snacks in accordance with nutritional guidelines.
22. Knows emergency procedures.
23. Attends scheduled KKLC Family Events outside of regular work hours. Flex time will be provided.
24. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
25. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
26. Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings.
27. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
28. Perform other duties as assigned.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
1. Caring for children can be stressful. The ECE Lead Teacher must ensure that children are supervised at all times, and that children are involved in safe and appropriate activities. There may be a number of situations happening at once, and the ECE Lead Teacher
must be prepared to handle accidents and emergencies at any time.
2. Able to prioritize and organize work assignments and take projects from beginning through completion.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The ECE Lead Teacher may be lifting and carrying children and equipment, and may spend time sitting on the floor or child sized furniture. The ECE Lead Teacher will be expected to clean and maintain equipment and facility, and may move throughout the community
with children. The ECE Lead Teacher may come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff and themselves. The ECE Lead Teacher will be working in a busy and
occasionally noisy environment. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at once, and the ECE Lead Teacher will have to supervise all children at all times.
The ECE Lead Teacher may experience smells associated with toileting and children who are ill.
There may be times that the environment is noisy and busy. The position also requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use
of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 50-75 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds.
COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires
training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.
The position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position also requires the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Activity mats & tables, classroom chairs, blocks, carts, outdoor play equipment/furniture, toys, arts & crafts accessories, books, classroom lockers/storage units, diaper changing tables, easels, etc.
Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, and telephone.
