Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a MACHINIST, Position Description Number D1493000 and is part of the HI 154 MXS, National Guard. Responsibilities SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The purpose of this position is to serve as Shop Chief over a small organizational segment in a maintenance function with responsibility for the overall shop operation. One or more employees who perform work in the Machinist, WG-3414-11, occupation are assigned to the shop. Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the technician and lower graded machinist(s). Determines approaches, methods, and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner. Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures. Performs the full range of shop work. Implements safety regulatory requirements. Ensures that other workers in the shop wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. Ensure that the Questionnaire is completed on Application Manager. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with a basic knowledge of machining processes. Must have the ability to use drill presses, shapers, planers and other types of associated machine tools. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months experience or training performing the full range of machining operations on most types of conventional or CNC machine tools and their various attachments. Experience or training in planning and lay out work from blueprints, worksheets and other drawings that may have missing or incorrect information. Skill in applying shop mathematics in establishing needed dimensions, such as those required for chasing threads or machining angular surfaces; locating and marking surfaces and angles to be machined. Skill in programming machining operations, setting up and operating CNC machine tools. Knowledge of and ability to apply advanced shop mathematics such as geometric and trigonometric formulas to make computation for laying out work, machining pieces at unusual or compound angles, determining gear ratios pitch, angles and other similar exact or precision dimension. MILITARY TECHNICIAN COMPATIBILITY POSITION: Prior to placement in this position, the selected applicant must be assigned to an appropriate military position and must meet the definition of a dual status technician in accordance with 32 U S C 709. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical efforts involve climbing, stooping, standing, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Requires moderate to strenuous physical exertion including pushing and shoving. Lifts heavy equipment and components weighing up to 40 pounds; and with assistance, lifts items weighing over 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in inclement weather, on icy, wet, and slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands, and in temperature and humidity extremes. Subject to the dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces such as landing gear, speed brakes, missile doors and flaps; engine noise, heat blast, intake suction, rotating propellers, explosive munitions, electrical voltage cartridge actuating devices, liquid oxygen, and fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, lubricants, paints, and solvents. NOTES TO CANDIDATES: a. Situations of inversion of military rank are not permitted, i.e., a military technician may not be militarily senior to his or her full-time supervisor. b. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses will be granted only after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Hawaii National Guard. c. Permanent technicians will remain on permanent status if selected. l. Selectee informed in advance of the reasons for and conditions of this temporary promotion may return to his/her former grade when temporary action is no longer needed and may be effected at any time without adverse action procedures. m. Temporary promotion may be extended for an additional two years, not-to-exceed four year, with National Guard Bureau approval. n. Should the need for temporary time limitations placed on this position no longer exist, the Temporary Promotion may be converted to a permanent action without further competition. o. Candidates above the grade of E-7 must include in their application the willingness to take a voluntary downgrade in order to be considered. p.
