About the Position: This position serves as a paraprofessional member of the surgical team at the Tripler Army Medical Center performing scrub and/or Operating Room duties. Oahu is the third largest island in the Hawaiian chain. Honolulu is the state capitol and the 11th largest U.S. Metropolitan city. Waikiki, the most world renowned site in Oahu, is the top visitor destination of the state. The island is very diverse with mountains, rainforests, volcanic craters, beaches and much more.

Responsibilities

Prepare and transport patients from hospital units to the Operating Room assuring safe transportation of the patient.

Select, assemble and organize required supplies, equipment, instruments and tools for specific surgical procedure.

Set up and perform maintenance on all operating room instruments and equipment.

Obtain sterile supplies, sutures, dressings, linens, etc. for the specific procedure.

Provide surgical instruments to surgeon during procedures.

Clean operating room after surgical procedures and reassemble instruments needed for following procedures.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE (GS-6): One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) assisting with the assembly of surgical equipment and instruments in the operating room; 2) preparing equipment and supplies based on patients specific surgical procedure(s); 3) assisting with the sterilization of surgical instruments and maintaining a sterile operating room; AND 4) assisting surgeon(s) during surgical procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

The Act directed the DHA to take responsibility for the administration (i.e., authority, direction, and control) of military treatment facilities beginning 1 Oct 18. Employees will become DoD employees upon transfer to the DHA.
