Job Summary Hina Mauka seeks a Prevention Specialist to provide substance abuse prevention services to adolescents, their families and communities. Job Responsibilities Provide substance abuse prevention services through the domains of planning and evaluation, education and skill development, community organization, public and organizational policy, professional growth and responsibilities. Provide substance abuse prevention services including screening, individually targeted education, classroom teaching, alternative activities, and community events. Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with teachers, counselors, and other professionals. Participate in school and community events. Create a safe and therapeutic environment for youth through the establishment of healthy norms and positive expectations for clients. Job requirements Must pass a background check and be able to work with children Must have a safe vehicle for transportation and travel purposes, submit driver's abstract, have a valid driver's license, and required insurance coverage to transport students and to travel between sites. The position is based in Kaneohe, but requires travel to various locations in Oahu to provide prevention services. Position is generally daytime hours, but will also include occasion evening work. Will be expected to work on Saturday or Sunday once or twice a month. Ability to work with a various populations, flexible, and positive Experience with adolescents, the DOE, and/or substance abuse Computer skills including familiarity with MS office programs and internet required.
