Lead, Mechanical Systems Design and Analysis Engineer - The Boeing Company (Hawaii)
Boeing Defense Space & Security has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Systems Design and Analysis Engineer to design, integrate and maintain electro-optical systems for the Research Advance Space Superiority Technology and Engineering (RASTER) Program. **This position is located at the Maui Space Surveillance Complex in Haleakala, Hawaii.**
This position will work alongside optical and systems engineers in coordination with the customer to establish requirements, design, procure, assemble, test and maintain various mechanical and electro-optical systems such as lenses, telescopes, visible and infrared sensor systems. Additionally this position will be responsible for supporting large industrial systems projects including hydraulics, lifting equipment, and facility support equipment.
Position Responsibilities
+ Provides technical quality review of the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid systems and thermal environment to establish the system design.
+ Support of existing telescope infrastructure including hydraulics, optical sensors, compressed gas systems, and mechanical dome structures
+ Modernization and upgrades of large hydraulic systems.
+ Design engineering support for special test equipment and lifting fixtures to support mirror recoating operations.
+ Assists the maintenance team with troubleshooting efforts in response to emergency maintenance requests.
+ Investigates legacy systems to provide engineering support for maintenance requests & modernization activities.
+ Assists with the development and documentation of large scale, complex mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish system designs and integration.
+ Performs preliminary design & analysis for various development efforts.
+ Supports crane lifting operations of critical assets.
+ Works above 10,000 feet ASL.
This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (US Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
Basic qualifications (Required Skill/Experience)
+ Bachelors of Science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry, or other technical degree
+ 1+ years of experience with CAD systems (CATIA/UG)
+ 1+ years of experience in geometric dimensioning & tolerancing
+ Experience with finite element analysis
+ Experience working with Solidworks
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience with large scale hydraulic systems design.
+ Experience working with optical systems, telescopes/domes.
+ Experience on system testing and integration.
Typical Education & Experience
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
