### Summary

**About the Position:**This position is located in the Optometry Clinic on Schofield Barracks; may occasionally be required to work at Tripler Army Medical Center HI on the island of Oahu.

Schofield Barracks Health Clinic is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.

### Responsibilities

* You will perform diagnostic and optical duties prior to optometrist's evaluation of patients.

* Record information on exam forms and inputs data into the electronic medical records (CHCS II). Assist in the Spectacle Request Transmission System (SRTS) entries, tracks spectacle orders and ensures timely distribution of all spectacles received.

* Coordinate and perform ocular screening.

* Assist in minor ophthalmic procedures to include administering medication, setting up equipment and cleaning up after procedures. Perform administrative support functions for the clinic.

* This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

* Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or the Military Training Network.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. **Specialized Experience GS-05:**To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience includes experience providing nonprofessional nursing care and performing clerical support functions in a clinic or hospital setting. Examples of nonprofessional nursing care may include diagnostic support duties such as assisting the doctor during examinations.

**Specialized Experience GS-06:** To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.

Specialized experience includes performing technician duties in either optometry or opthalmology fields that included ophthalmic photography and using visual field analyzers, non-contact tonometry, pachymetry, testing to measure visual acuity, color vision, steropsis and phorias; and using an automated system to access an electronic health record.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

**Time in Grade Requirement GS-05:** Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).

**Time in Grade Requirement GS-06:**Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

### Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:

**FOR GS-05:** Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, [insert applicable field(s) of study].

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

**FOR GS-06:**Completion of one half year of graduate level education that is directly related to the work of the position. (Note: you must submit a copy of your transcripts)

OR

Combination of education and experience. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.

**FOREIGN EDUCATION:**If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
