JOB SUMMARY:  Under the direction and supervision of the Structural Superintendent, foreman, and lead man weld metal components with appropriate equipment to fit and join, fabricate, and/or repair a variety of marine equipment and structural components per specifications and in accordance with the production schedule.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Perform welding duties using wire welding GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding), GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding), or SMAW (Stick Welding). Weld steel components with welding equipment as specified by procedures, layouts, blueprints, diagrams, work orders, or oral instructions. Welds range from simple tacks to complex welds, performed in varying positions. Work includes set-up, laying out work using fixtures and guides to repair, modify, or fabricate parts and/or equipment products. Operate and/or use related equipment and tools which include forklifts, hoists, slings, grinders (portable & bench), cutting torches, hand tools, drills, punches, a tape measure, and Air Arc. Keep equipment operational by completing preventive maintenance requirements; follow manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshoot malfunctions; call for repairs and complete the daily check sheets. Read, understand, and follow job order specifications, blueprints, work instructions, and procedures. Maintain level of work performance in accordance with standards and/or job order specifications. Participate in process and product development and improvement programs, teams, and focus groups. Perform or assist in other assigned duties as qualified. Maintain a safe working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.  Keep work area clean and clean up after project completion or end of shift as appropriate. OTHER FUNCTIONS: Perform work in various physical positions including standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, and reaching/reaching overhead. Perform work standing on a variety of surfaces to include steel decks, concrete, etc. 8-12 hours per day as scheduled. Willingness and flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and holidays. Willingness and flexibility to cross-train as required. Regular and reliable attendance. Perform work safely in accordance with all Company safety policies, procedures, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements. SKILLS/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE: High School Diploma or equivalent ASW certification preferred Large scale industrial experience.  Marine/shipyard/ship repair experience preferred. Experience with computers/electronics preferred. Blueprint reading DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Perform work in heavy industrial/shipyard setting with exposure to heat, cold, and humidity, industrial odors, fumes, gasses, chemicals, oil, grease, smoke, dust, noise, and vibration, and involves climbing ladders and stairs, using pneumatic tools, working in cramped quarters, and working with moving machinery.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for this position, including hearing protection, safety glasses, safety boots with metatarsal guards, face shield, welding helmet, welding gloves, welding sleeves/jacket (leather or cloth), and welding apron/chaps. A respirator may also be required.

This position is represented by The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Shipbuilders, Blacksmiths, Forgers, and Helpers, AFL-CIO and its Local Lodge 627.  Candidates must become a member of the union as a condition of employment.

Must be a U. S. citizen to gain access to BAE controlled work sites.
